Tuning Fork Therapy
Sound you can hear. Vibration you can feel.
At OneSong Healing Arts, tuning fork therapy brings together the precise world of acoustic resonance with the very physical experience of vibration through the body.
Using both weighted and unweighted tuning forks, I work with sound, mechanical vibration, touch, rhythm and attention to create deeply restorative one-to-one sessions.
My approach is science-informed and experience-led. I am interested in what we can understand about vibration and the nervous system, while remaining honest about what science does — and does not yet — tell us.
Based in Steni, near Polis Chrysochous in Paphos, Cyprus, OneSong Healing - Reiki & Resonance offers a different kind of sound therapy: quiet, considered and grounded in the experience of the individual.
What is tuning fork therapy?
Tuning fork therapy is a form of sound and vibration-based complementary therapy using precision-tuned metal tuning forks.
Some forks are used in the space around the body, creating audible tones. Others are weighted and placed directly against the body, where their mechanical vibration can be experienced physically through the tissues.
The two approaches feel very different.
An unweighted fork creates an audible sound that you hear and perceive through the auditory system.
A weighted fork creates a strong tactile sensation through direct contact. The stem of the fork is placed against selected areas of the body, allowing mechanical vibration to be transferred at the point of contact.
This distinction is important because tuning fork therapy is not simply about listening to a frequency.
It can also be about feeling vibration.
How does a tuning fork work?
There is some fascinating physics behind something as simple as striking a tuning fork.
A tuning fork is engineered to have a particular natural resonant frequency. Its dimensions, geometry, mass distribution and the properties of the metal determine how it oscillates.
When the fork is activated, its two prongs move in opposite directions around their equilibrium position.
The fork then continues to oscillate at its characteristic frequency.
The prongs, the section joining them and the stem form one mechanical structure. The vibration is therefore not confined to the ends of the fork; mechanical forces are transmitted through the structure.
With a weighted tuning fork, additional mass is incorporated at the ends of the prongs. This changes the mechanical characteristics of the fork and is part of its design.
When the stem is placed against the body, the vibrating fork is mechanically coupled to the tissues.
This is where the physics of the instrument meets human physiology.
How does the vibration interact with the body?
The body is highly sensitive to mechanical stimulation.
Our skin, muscles, connective tissues and joints contain specialised sensory receptors capable of detecting touch, pressure, movement and vibration.
When mechanical vibration is applied to the body, these sensory systems receive information that is processed through the nervous system.
At a cellular level, mechanotransduction describes the process by which mechanical forces are converted into cellular signals.
This is a well-established biological principle. Cells throughout the body respond to mechanical forces in different ways.
Tuning fork therapy does not need exaggerated claims to be interesting.
A vibrating instrument is providing a mechanical stimulus. The body detects mechanical stimuli. The nervous system processes sensory information.
The fascinating question is what happens when we apply that stimulus in a particular way, in a particular place, for a particular length of time.
That is an area of growing interest in vibration, sensory neuroscience and therapeutic bodywork.
Weighted and unweighted tuning forks
Weighted tuning forks
Weighted tuning forks have additional mass incorporated into the ends of their prongs.
They are designed to be experienced through direct contact with the body.
During a session, I may place the stem gently against specific areas of the body, including selected muscles, connective tissue areas and acupressure points.
The experience is predominantly tactile: you feel the vibration through the point of contact.
My 128 Hz weighted tuning forks are particularly important in my body-based work, including Cranial Resonance and Myofascial Flow Therapy™.
Unweighted tuning forks
Unweighted tuning forks are primarily used to create audible tones.
I use pairs of unweighted forks in particular harmonic relationships, including C and G — the musical interval known as the perfect fifth.
The forks can be sounded around the body in different patterns, creating a changing auditory and sensory environment.
This forms part of my Biofield Repatterning work.
The two types of fork therefore have different applications. One is not simply a stronger or weaker version of the other.
What happens during a tuning fork therapy session?
Every session is individual, because there is no single tuning fork protocol that is appropriate for everyone.
You remain comfortably clothed and the session takes place in a quiet, private environment.
Depending on the treatment, I may use weighted forks directly on the body, unweighted forks around the body, or a combination of sound, vibration and gentle therapeutic touch.
You may hear tones, feel vibration, notice changes in your breathing or simply experience a gradual sense of stillness.
There is no requirement to meditate or to achieve a particular state.
You are simply invited to rest and notice your own experience.
The work is gentle and non-invasive. I do not use tuning forks to force the body into change, and I do not claim to diagnose or cure illness through sound or vibration.
My approach to tuning fork therapy
There is a lot of information online about frequencies, sound healing and “healing vibrations”.
Some of it is fascinating.
Some of it is difficult to substantiate.
I believe we do a disservice to this work when we make claims that go beyond the evidence.
My approach is therefore deliberately science-informed.
I draw on established principles from acoustics, vibration, sensory physiology and neuroscience, alongside the traditions and therapeutic systems that have influenced my practice.
I am particularly interested in the relationship between mechanical vibration and the nervous system, including mechanoreception and mechanotransduction.
I am also interested in the subjective experience of resonance: the way sound, rhythm, vibration, attention and a safe therapeutic environment can influence how a person experiences their own body.
There is still much we do not know.
For me, that is not a weakness.
It is a reason to remain curious.
Tuning fork therapies at OneSong Healing Arts
Tuning forks are not a single treatment. I use them in several distinct ways, depending on what the session is designed to explore.
Myofascial Flow Therapy™
A body-based treatment using a weighted 128 Hz tuning fork and gentle therapeutic contact.
The work begins with the feet and explores the relationship between the plantar fascia, posterior chain and wider body.
It is particularly suited to people who carry tension through the feet, calves, legs, lower back, shoulders or neck, or who simply want a deeply grounding body-based treatment.
EXPLORE MYOFASCIAL FLOW THERAPY™
Cranial Resonance
A gentle 30-minute treatment using weighted tuning forks around the head, neck and shoulders.
The treatment incorporates vibration, selected acupressure points and carefully applied tuning forks to create a quiet, deeply restful experience.
It is particularly suited to those who want to switch off, slow down and experience a treatment centred around the head and upper body.
Biofield Repatterning
An immersive sound-based session using unweighted C and G tuning forks, creating the harmonic interval known as the perfect fifth.
The forks are sounded and moved around the body in flowing patterns, creating a dynamic auditory and sensory experience.
The session is designed as a space for deep relaxation, body awareness and quiet attention.
[EXPLORE BIOFIELD REPATTERNING]
Fibonacci Alchemy of Sound Exeperience
A more contemplative tuning fork experience based on Fibonacci relationships and the work of Dr John Beaulieu.
Rather than focusing on a single frequency, the session explores a sequence of musical intervals and relationships.
It is an immersive experience combining sound, resonance, attention and contemplation.

Who might enjoy tuning fork therapy?
People come to tuning fork therapy for many different reasons.
Some simply want an hour away from noise, screens and constant stimulation.
Others are interested in exploring vibration as part of their wellbeing practice.
You may be drawn to tuning fork therapy if you are looking for:
Deep relaxation
A quiet space to decompress
A different sensory experience
Greater awareness of the body
Gentle support for nervous system regulation
A non-invasive form of complementary wellbeing
An exploration of sound, resonance and vibration
A treatment that combines modern curiosity with traditional therapeutic practices
You do not need to understand anything about frequencies or sound therapy before your first session.
You don't need to believe in anything.
You simply need to be curious.
What does tuning fork therapy feel like?
There is no single experience.
With weighted forks, you may feel a distinct pulsing or vibrating sensation at the point where the stem contacts the body.
Some people describe the sensation as surprisingly deep or grounding.
With unweighted forks, the experience is more auditory. You may notice the sound moving through the space around you, changes in your perception of the tone, or a sense of becoming increasingly absorbed in the sound.
Some people become very still.
Some notice their breathing.
Some experience warmth or heaviness.
Others simply enjoy having nothing to do for a while.
There is no correct response.
The purpose is not to make you experience something specific. It is to create the conditions for you to notice what you experience for yourself.

Reading about vibration can only take you so far.
The experience itself is much simpler.
You lie down.
You breathe.
A tuning fork is struck.
And you feel the vibration arrive.
If you are curious about what happens when carefully applied sound and mechanical vibration meet the body, I invite you to experience it for yourself.
